I'm about to convert a 66 SS from drum brakes to disc brakes. I have noticed that the aftermarket spindles that are available on ebay and elsewhere do not come with the steering arms (The curved arms that bolt to the spindle and accept the tie rod). I have two questions:

1) Are the aftermarket spindles any good?

2) Will the steering arms from mu old drum brake spindles bolt to the new disc brake spindles and work properly?

Thanks in Advance

I used a Stainless Steel Brakes disc conversion set for my 66.

The spindles work fine for 4 years now. I used my drum type steering arms/knuckles, but had to drill the 3/8 hole to fit the 1/2 UNF bolts that came with the spindle.

I also had to put a 2 mm. washer between the dust shield and the spindle at the front bolt.

1) I have OEM-style aftermarket spindles on my -69. and they worked just like original spindles. My only complaint would be that the machining was a little bit rough. This didn't cause any problems other than some minor clean-up in the bolt holes.

2) The steering arms are the same on drum and disc spindles, but the earlier arms have the smaller bolts that rusty66 describes. You can either redrill the arms, or find a set of a later model (think -68 and up have the 1/2" bolts).
