Hi all. I have not posted in a while. Company got shut down and I had to regroup for a while. My good news is the paint on my 66 is still like the day it came out of the shop a couple of months ago with no yellowing so thats all squared away. But my new problem is I used a product called slime on the undercarraige prior to it going into the shop and it will not come off. I talked to the owned of calwest and he has only seen this happen one other time. I am thinking the clear has a lock on it and I have tried everything he told me to including rubbing alcohol. The only thing that will start to make it budge is lacquer thinner but then it starts to damage the paint. Has anyone had this happen and what did they do to get it off. My only other option is for me lift the body up and pull the frame out from under it and I am trying to avoid that since all the panel are aligned, and the doors and front end are on it. Any advice is much appreciated as always.

Thanks,
John Weaver

I used to use this stuff, would be very hard to remove if ya ran the stuff. We just used to keep soaking it with water and scrubbing and eventually it would come off. This stuff is water soluable?,not sure why thinner or alcohol would take it off. Mike

Alcohol has an atom that is common with water, as well as an atom common with the urethane. Right now with my mind pretty screwed up from some personal stuff, I can't remember what the names are.

This is why alcohol is used in water borne enamels because it is sort of a "meeting place" for the two different technologies.

Steam cleaners will remove it but may also take paint with it.

Thanks for the reply all. I am going to call calwest today and talk to the guy I spoke with about my problem. Here is what my thoughts are. The clear coat put on the car when it was painted has it locked from the rubbing alcohol breaking it loose. On printing presses, printing chemicals will not remove paper off a blanket on the press for instance, but water will. If I can break the clear and what ever loose from the slime, I think it will come off. I have thought about renting a steam jenny and seeing if that did it, but you are right in that it may rip paint off. If it pulled it off the frame, then so be it. But I am concerned abouyt using it with a fresh paint job on the body panels and what may would happen if this gun got away from me a few times. Either way, it will be resolved. I will update you guys on this.

Thanks,
