Well, if you read my last post you know that I got scrizewed on a set of fiberglass doors... however, I have an even cooler idea! I am going to strip my steel front end down, tie it all together and turn it into a tilt front end! Oh yes, engineering hard at work... but how? Anyone have experience with this? I think that if I go with a fiberglass hood, the weight would not be too much at the farther points from the hinge... it will slide out and then tilt so that the fenders wont hit the doors or anything... and will be reinforced by a few tubes going across the top of the fenders. A lotta work yes, but cheaper than an $800+ fiberglass front end, better fit, and much more style.. plus I can say that I made it! Oh yeah back to the Q's... Any help or tips or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance if anyone comes up with anything!

Well a good place to start might be a company called Fairlane. They mainly make full front tilt kits for 40-50 ford PU. But they should have the componats to make your front tilt. It doesnt matter if its a 51 ford or 67 chevelle it all takes the same pieces and parts and knowledge. Their number is 989-224-6460...Eric

I have the same plan. I was going to renforce the fenders with a light tubing and use a glass hood. The problem that I have is that; titling over the bumper. I had an idea about using some hinges that lift up, then out and over. I was also going to cut the lower part of the fenders off and have them attached to the body. That way I am lifting just above the wheel well to avoid stratching. Then I wanted to use 2 linear shocks (like on the back window of a hatchback). I am hoping to start this in the next few months. Let me know if you have a ideas or find some good info.
Thanks
Dave

This guy has some good ideas. A way to get around the bumper would be to use a fiberglass bumper, or even the regular bumper but attach it somehow to tilt with the whole front end. May be a little less safe, because the bumper wouldn't function properly, but that's what insurance is for. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif I am sure whatever gets through the bumper wont get past the frame anyway. I'll keep posting here if I find anything more out.

I saw a tilt front on a 66 or 68 Impala, Gary Heddon @ Magnum Superchargers did it. From what I remember the front fenders hood and bumper were fastened together and a tube was welded across the front. Brackets were of an L fashion with the tube sliding forward or back in them. I think that was his kids car, it was close to 20 years ago so can't remember it all. I don't have his # available but some fellow TCers have had him build motors recently.
