: 1970 SS Stripes

The shop that's painting my car is about to put the stripes on and there are some questions that have been bugging me.

According to what I've read early 70's and late 70's thru 72 had different dimensions on the stripes. My painter ordered the stencil kit from stencils and stripes but I believe it to be the later dimensions.

Does anybody know the dimensions the stripes are supposed to be for an early built 1970 (the first week of January)? I need all the measurements and thickness of pinstripes etc.

I'm very interested in originality but would anyone really notice if the stencil kit (later dimensions) was used on my car? Do judges know the difference?

I've got the Chevelle SS Restoration Guide by Paul H**d, which shows the different dimensions but this book has been wrong on numerous occasions and I don't want to trust his information.

Also what is the best technique for getting the stripes to line up on the cowl induction door.

Look forward to hearing from you if you have definite answers or honest opinions.

mr70, Micky you out there? Anybody?

This is gone over Paul Herd's book, the Chevelle Restoration manual. It's got a lot of mistakes in it, but I believe he's right about the stripes. The dimensions are listed. I'd tell you what it says, but I don't have access to the book right now.

RC, the early 70 stripes dont look that good.
The 71-72 and late 70 stripes are wider and they are much better looking.
If i were you i would go with the stencils and stripes kit.
They have a good kit.
I ordered it for my Velle.. But i still didn't use it.
When its time to go to the paint shop, I will be sure to use it.

You want to know how thinner were the early 70 stripes?
Look at the late stripes.. the early 70 stripes were 2/3 in there size..
Which made them thin and kinda ugly.

Can anybody direct me to a picture of an early 70 with the thinner stripes? Was this only on VERY early ones? I don't think I've ever seen one. What is considered an early 70? Didn't they start making them in July or August of 69? What month was the switch made? Sorry about all the questions but this really has me interested.

Found some pics.
Compare this to the 71-72 stripes.. and you'll see the diffrences... its thinner.. about 2/3 of the 71 72 stripes.

(You can see that they are not on the whole part of the hood where the 71 72 stripes go, and they are not painted to the edge of the hood)

Your welcome.

Its an animated image.. Instead of animating it, you just make a new layer and put a whole new image in it.
Than you play it and it rotates
