Now I know why the guy gave up on this car.I recently bought a 67 elcamino for my son.It has a rebuilt jasper 350 with supposedly 30k miles on it,350 turbo,Eldlebrock intake, big holley, and gear drive. The guy did most of the body work, floor pans, lower rear quarter patches, and front fender patches. He also included the new interior parts that wern't even open yet.New carpet, door panels, sound pad, and all the weather striping. When we got the car it was a semi basket case. The problem is around both the front and rear glass is rusted pretty bad.The guy assured us that this was a easy fix with fiberglass.I had a bodyman lined up to look at the car before I bought it. At the last minute he canceled. Both my kid and myself were so excited about the car I reluctantly went ahead and gave the guy $2500 for the car.I couldn't stand to disappoint my son after hyping him up so much on a 67 elcamino.I just got a bid of $1200 to fix just around the windows with new metal.I'm floored.Has anyone ever had this work done before, any tips.I think it's time I learn to weld.Would I be better off trying to find another top and change it, or new body or put glass it in.I don't think the glass will last. Any input. Thanks

You need to shop around, if you look hard enough you can generally find a body man that will do the job reasonably. You have to understand that to do the job correctly the glass should be removed and the chance of breaking the glass upon removal is a possibility. Trust me , I know. Just let your fingers do the walking and obtain the best price. Don't forget to get references.

I'd spend some time searching the archives and forums on this site. This topic has been discussed a lot in the past. For $1200 you ought to be able to buy a topline welder and enough lessons to be able to do the job yourself. Then you can charge others. Seriously, I hope you can find a more reasonable estimate. By the way, I have a '65 EC that leaks around the windshield. I dread what I'm expecting to find when I finally get around to removing the windshield and having a look. Good luck.
