Does anybody make a reproduction guage housing for the 68 chevelle? It seems that there are aftermarket guage housing for every year but 68. Mine also has the roller tach, but I could cut that area out of another one if needed. My gauge haousing is broken in most places were the screws to hold it to the dash are and has some big holes across the bottom from who knows what. If not how are you guys pinting the silver trim and still having it look original?

The 68 dash bezels are not reproduced. If your dash bezel is so bad that it can't be repaired/restored, your best bet is to find one on Ebay or at a swap meet. The silver you mentioned is actually chrome which is hard to duplicate if you want it to look like the original. There are several methods guys have used to look like the chrome, but if you want it done right, you can send it out to one of several plastic chrome company's to have the original bezel re-chromed. They will also be able to fix holes and broken plastic.

If somebody did make some reproduction 68 bezel they could make a killing! I check on getting the chrome done on my bezel and it comes to around $350 without any other work! Is there any other way to come close for less?

Bill's correct, the only way to make it like chrome is to have it chromed. Search this site and you'll find a lot on the topic of chrome plating plastic. It requires a vacuum deposition process, and only a few places do it. THe original bezels were completely chrome plated, then the lettering and edges were masked, followed by a color coat (black, blue, etc.).

That said, the next best thing (UNTIL SOMEONE PLEASE REPRODUCES THESE BEZELS!) is to paint your bezel, and use a chrome (silver) paint pen. I've heard several people say the one made by Krylon and available at Hobby Lobby is the best. On my bezel, I used spray chrome for the outside of the bezel and the rectangle around the tach. Then I taped that area off and painted the bezel black. THEN I used the paint pen for the fine lettering, etc. It doesn't look like chrome, but looks better than it used to look.

I had my 68SS bezel restored at www.mrgusa.com (http://www.mrgusa.com) they did a great job, checkout my showroom for a picture of it. Good Luck:thumbsup:
