Has anyone ever built this Rotisserie? http://members.tripod.com/mopar_roadster/body_rotisserie.htm
If so do I need the braces at the bottom of the main shaft? Could I use nuts welded on the frame with bolts like the rotisserie at http://www.accessiblesystems.com/JrFullCaster.htm or should I drill holes for thru bolts? Any other comments are welcome.

Don. I have built my own rotisserie http://www.si.hhs.nl/~rob/rotisserie.html from the information Michael Pell has displayed. I do not quite understand your question though. (Probably due to my understanding of your language.) Do you mean nr 11 by the main shaft? Which braces ? Above nr 3?
As for the bolts from accessible. I think their method is used to make it adjustable?

Sorry, by main shaft I mean #1. The braces attach #1 to #7 and #3. Do I really need these braces? I was going to drill holes in the adjustable parts and weld nuts to the holes then use bolts to secure the connection instead of using bolts that go all the way through the two parts that are to be secured. I hope this explains what I want to do better.

Hi Don,
I intend to build a rotisserie very similar to the first one you linked. I'm currently collecting 3" square tube. I think the gussets are probably not required but may add some integrity to that joint. May as well, it won't hurt. I thought about just a nut and cinch bolt but from the experience I have with a similar setup on my engine stand, find that it loosens up from time to time. It would make it infinately more adjustable however. I may do the cinch bolt and nut routine and if it doesn't lock well enough, go to a through bolt. A couple of other things I was noodling was two cross shafts tieing the two ends together. It would allow you to keep the body a little lower and be able to spin it completely without hitting the cross shafts. And the pivot tube welded directly on top of the upright. Height adjustment comes from the four "L" shaped legs that attach to the body. Thoughts??

Don, YES, you should install the braces (gussets). They are very important in that they add a lot of strength to the vertical column and relieve the stress on the welds.
I built a rotisserie using the acessible systems deluxe model as a pattern. It took a lot of time, but it has definitely been worth it. I'm a scrounger by nature and used a lot of used material. I probably have less than $200.00 in everything. Let me know if I can help you.

I like the way accesssible systems has the adjustable arms that attach to the car set up. But I like the way the other system sets up the pivot arm. You can see-saw the body in to place while the whole thing is joined together. This makes me feel better while lifting the body into place. I also like only having one bar joining the ends together. You don't have to trip over a bar while working on things. I think I will thru bolt the connections. I don't trust cinch bolts. I will also install the gussets for extra strength. So far I only have $210 in materials and that includes the steel and having it cut to length. I was going to add jacks to each side in order to get the body up on the Rotisserie.

Don. I would definitly not use cinch bolts (on the nr 8, 9 and 10) unless the inner tube is solid. The risk with the body hanging in is way too high. And by the way, how many bodies are you planning on restoring. Perhaps you could use a smaller securing bolt or pin additional the a cinch ?
The nr 11 can easily be connected with a cinch.

If you keep the main shafts a bit longer, you could lift the body with a winch ?

I have already drilled everything for pins. I was a little unsure about cinch bolts. I never thought about using a winch to lift the body. Hopefully I have enough room at the top for a winch. Thanks for all the help.
