I picked up a 65 convertable that needs a 1/4 panel replaced. when I got the car the panel had already been removed from the door jamb back to the trunk. I was able to obtain a complete 1/4 from another donor convertable. I have 1/4 of the car to be more clear. when the guy cut it for me he took it includeing part of the floor and trunk (like the car was cut in 4 peices). heres the question, Just how hard will it be to replace this panel? would it be better if I had someone do it for me? I am fairly capable my big problem right now is that I have moved to another home and have yet to be able to set up a shop.
what is everones thougts on this?

If you can get it cleaned to bare metal first that would help. A shop will charge about 50-75 an hr and may take 5-6 hrs. If you have 600-700 extra do it body work will be minimal though and only come out primed.

IMO.. you can do this if

A: was the orginial 1/4 removed along the Factory seams

B: you have to tools ( air chisel, spot weld drill, an asortment of MANY clamps, welder ( mig /gas ) and grinders, ect.

c: the patience to fit adjust fit doors ,trunk wheel house, lowere rocker seam and taillight pan seam. B_4 you strik an arc. ?

Having an orginial 1/4 makes the out come more predictable,, but theothere side of the coin compaired to a 1/3 skin is all the fiting to ALL the openings...If and only If your comfortable try it.. do all the pre cleaning and di assembly of the replacement 1/4,, do your trial fiting.. if your not able to get all the seams lined up Door/trunk/window pinch weld/lowere rocker seam.. put a few sheet metal screws in and start seeking prof. help..

Ps don't even think about pluging in the welder unless it fits 100% in ALL areas...
