: How do I get into trunk without keys
daniels68 Feb 23rd, 04, 11:13 PM Hey Guys,
I got a 69 Buick Skylark GS that I purchased off a guy who had no keys for it. I was wondering if there was a way to get into these A body trunks without hacking away at the lock assembly and possibly damaging the emblem and trunk lid itself. Can I get to the lock by taking out the back seat and crawling my way through? Also, is there some sort of trick to get out the back seat? I think that there is a couple of half inch bolts that hold the top of the seat but is there a trick to getting the seat bottom out? Thanks in advance for any help as I'm curious to see how much trunk rot is in there.
MARTINSR Feb 23rd, 04, 11:47 PM You have it, just go thru the back seat with a pair of pliers and turn the flat piece that goes from the lock to the latch.

Some cars have a couple of bolts down under the front of the seat bottom (have to stand on your head to see them). And some other cars just have a bracket which hooks onto a bar on the bottom of the seat. To release this type of hook, you have to push the seat bottom rearward about 1in (kind of hard) and pull up and then back forward. This kind of latch or hook can be kind of difficult to get unhooked until you get the hang of it.
i think on my 67 chevelle A- body the bottom section of the seat can stay in to be able to reach the lock mechanism.. but then again im only 150 lbs so i can fit in tight spaces.....
MARTINSR Feb 24th, 04, 9:50 AM Yes the bottom seat cushion has to be pushed back and down in the front to unhook it off the hook on the floor. I find that sometimes I need to get down on the floor and push out with my shoulders and upper arms to push the seat back and down. Of course being 150 pounds as well helps. smile.gif
There are no bolts on a 69 "A" body on the seat bottom.
The bottom seat cushion HAS to be removed to remove the back cushion.
daniels68 Feb 24th, 04, 2:40 PM Thanks alot guys, I really appreciate the help as I spent some frustrating time trying to get the bottom seat out without any luck and thanks for helping me save the trunk lid -- I think its the only real nice body panel on the whole car!
tony r Feb 24th, 04, 5:36 PM if all else false just drill out the lock itself on the trunk lid and stick a screw driver into the latch release through the hole, but dont use a foot long bit and go through the latch release slot !!! graemlins/angry.gif

YenkoChevelle69 Feb 24th, 04, 7:34 PM OK, assuming that you have the back seat out, take a flash light and a ratchet with the correct size socket and an ample amount of extentions to reach the latch.... take the four bolts out that hold the latch on and the trunk will open b/c there is nothing to hold it down.
Zman Feb 25th, 04, 3:01 AM I'm just a little guy, and there's no way I could squeeze through there!
Once the seat is removed, try taping a screwdriver to a brooom handle or something along those lines. Insert the screwdriver blade in the slot along side where the flat piece from the lock goes. Give it a turn, and she'll open right up! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
tony r Feb 25th, 04, 9:07 AM GREY DUCT TAPE A SCREW DRIVER TO A BROOM HANDLE STICK IT IN THE ELONGATED SLOT TURN AND IT SHOULD POP RIGHT OPEN graemlins/clonk.gif
