: SBC Guy Goes BBC!?!?!
JOHN WILSON Oct 6th, 06, 10:59 AM Well, not strictly BBC. ;) The Chevelle still has a fastblock, err....smallblock in it. :D
This is my first BBC and I have to admit, it does have eye appeal. This one is pretty mild though. It's a 454 block w/3.76 crank, oval ports, weiand dual plane, comp 268 hyd flat-tappet.
I bought this one to enjoy and drive, but it will need some small tweaks to get it right. Right now it just needs some carb/distributor attention. Down the road I'd like to install a small hydro-roller and smaller headers.
I'm pumped! Now I just have to sell my other 69 pick-up before the wife files for divorce. :D

BillsCamino Oct 6th, 06, 11:03 AM Nice truck, John...VERY nice! Enjoy.
383Malibu Oct 6th, 06, 11:13 AM Looks really sharp John. BTW... I don't recall you mentioning anything about the 'Vette that is sharing the garage space with the new pickup. Are you holding out on us?
jbird Oct 6th, 06, 11:14 AM Very cool truck! I'm jealous!
JOHN WILSON Oct 6th, 06, 11:20 AM Thanks, guys!
Roger, the Vette is my wife's toy. It's an '03 I bought for her X-mas 02. Has about 10k miles on it now. Frankly, at my height, it's a PITA for me to drive. I basically have to fall into it and roll out of it. She really enjoys it tho!
540Hotrod Oct 6th, 06, 11:22 AM Sweet truck John!!
Time to get A/C on there though...it's hot on cruise nights!!

kjett Oct 6th, 06, 11:33 AM Super nice truck, John! Early 70's (fleetside) and 55-57 stepsides are my favorite pick'em ups. I'm helping my dad restore a '55 stepside at the moment. Looks like you got a fun vehicle there
P.S. it's hard to tell from the picture. What color is the paint? Looks like a pewter or champagne color. I like it!
Andy69 Oct 6th, 06, 11:35 AM wow that's a nice truck. That grille really cleans up the front end.
69bigblock Oct 6th, 06, 11:43 AM John, that is a sweet ride. Careful of the darkside or forever will it control your destiny.....

Ken, the paint is a Mercedes silver. Not sure what year or model. Whoever did the paint did a fantastic job! It's very deep.
67-72 fleetsides are high on my list, right behind 69 Camaro's and 66/67 Velles. The best part is they're a helluva lot more affordable than similarly done up Camaro's.
Andy/Frank, Thanks!
joespanova Oct 6th, 06, 2:13 PM John........................you have waaaaaaaaaaay too much play money!
Maybe I should have been a pharmacist!
Harold Sutton Oct 6th, 06, 2:22 PM My son had one of those. A '71 longbed with several different motors in it. The last one was the old high compression 481" that ran 11.32 @ 116.9 on the motor with a turbo 350, 3.73 gears, posi track, some E.T. street tires. A little help from nitrous resulted in a 10.48 @ 126+. The truck weighed 4080 lbs. with him in it. Happy motoring with the new big block and it sure is pretty.
JOHN WILSON Oct 6th, 06, 2:53 PM Joe/Harold-Thanks!
69 Ratt Vette Oct 6th, 06, 4:44 PM Yes, nice truck....gotta like the Vette too, even if it is a C-5
BillsCamino Oct 6th, 06, 4:56 PM Maybe I should have been a pharmacist!
You'd be your own best customer! :p
cuisinartvette Oct 6th, 06, 6:03 PM Wow...simply gorgeous! You just dont see them that clean around here..Someone did a nice job on that one.
FancyBoy Oct 6th, 06, 9:38 PM That does look nice. On the 67-70 models I would never change the grills. On the 71-72 models however, I would consider it.
It looks as though they relocated the gas tank and filled in the hole adjacent to the driverside door handle.
I did the same to mine, and I replaced the original gas tank with a virtual wall of speakers.
In contrast, mine is a work/tow vehicle that gets 18mpg consistently (w/ turbo 350).
frankf72malibu Oct 6th, 06, 9:44 PM John,
Wow! That is really nice! So what does the 69 look like? Where do you park all of these nice rides? Man, can I have your wife talk to my wife?
Frank
DragRacer Oct 6th, 06, 11:17 PM Very nice John!
JOHN WILSON Oct 7th, 06, 12:21 AM Guys, thanks again!
Fancy- yes, the tank now sits between the frame rails. The silver 69 has a lockable access hole at the rear drivers wheelwell. The white 69 actually has a door grafted into the rear side panel.
Frank- here's a couple pics of the "other" 69. It's also a very nicely done truck. It's been fully restored and has full factory air and power windows. It's actually a C-20 and has a mid 90's 5.7l TBI motor with 700r4 tranny. I'm in the process of cleaning it up and taking care of some small fluid leaks to get ready to sell. BTW, I have 2-2 car garages and my wife kindly reminded me  tonight that they're now both full of vehicles that we don't really drive.

Motorhead62 Oct 7th, 06, 7:44 AM Very Nice John!
Big Blocks are sooooo cool!
joespanova Oct 7th, 06, 8:14 AM John....you are outta' control! Mrs Wilson a pharmacist too?!
Apparently based on your profile (vehicles) there's no cash flow problem in the Wilson household................you aint sellin' prescriptions on the streets are ya? :D:D LOL
Harold Sutton Oct 7th, 06, 10:15 AM That's a lot of nice Chevies you got there John. Two really nice pickups. One does need an empty space just in case something neet comes along.
Busted Knuckles Oct 7th, 06, 10:23 AM One of the coolest things about the '60 - '72 Chevy trucks is the trailing arm suspensions. They're about as effective at getting power to the ground as anything ever built. NASCAR trucks are actually using a modified version. We have a local racer who had a '69 with a 555 in it who wasn't satisfied that he was getting the best times possible with his engine. $4K worth of ladder bar fabrication later, he picked up .01 in the 1320. He's pi$$ed but I learned a lesson from his fiasco. I have a '56 that I'm dropping on a '68 chassis and hope to put a 555 between the framerails of that.
Sweet truck, by the way. I live in a part of the country where there are a lot of 'em and yours is top-shelf. Congrats!

Joe, yes she is. No illegal activity going on around here. Although, I bet on the street my avg profit per rx would be more than $7 bucks.
Chris, Harold, Gary...Thanks!

John,
Wow! That is also a very nice truck. TBI, with air and power windows has got to make that a very comfortable cruiser. I also like the stance. Sure you drive the vehicles, right? Just not every day....
Frank
