I`m looking for a TV antenna so I can at least get the local news channel in the bedroom. I can`t run cable up there and don`t realy need it but would like to get a couple channels with a antenna. I don`t know anything about electronics so I don`t know what to even look for at the radio shack or other places. Thanks.

They sell those "rabbit ears" everywhere. Home centers like Menards have them. Target stores even carry them too. Im not sure what the difference in quality is. I have seen them for 10 dollars and 50 dollars.

Yeah I was on the radio shack site and they had them listed from$10-$50+. I just did`nt know if there was anything special I needed to look for. I`m going to go to radio shack this weekend and see what I can find out. Thanks.

In my experienc the rabbit ears don't really get all that great reception but they will work.
If your TV is cable ready you might need an adapter too unless the rabbit ears have a coaxle plug.
What about those old style outdoor aerial antennas? :D You know the ones that you see on the older homes that run up the side of the house....I wonder how well they pick up?

How far away are you from your actual broadcast stations? The farther you are away, the better of an antenna you will need. The rabbit ears usually dont work very well unless you're really close to them. Dont fall for all the 'bells and whistles' rabbit ears, like amplified and all that stuff. If you dont mind putting up an outside antenna, that will give you the best reception. Radio shack is OK, but lots of those guys wont know much about TV antennes...after all, cable has been around since most of them were born! Maybe a TV shop in your area, with a little more experience?

We have two on cable and two on "rabbit ears". The ones that actually work have a knob that allows fine tuning and cost about $30. Plain ones might work if you are in a direct shot from the towers, but in the hills like where we are they were useless.

Thanks guys. A outside antenna is out of the question. We rent a 2 story townhome and while the owner might allow it, I don`t want to deal with a outside unit. I did see some online at radio shack with the dial so maybe I`ll check those out. I`ll try the TV shops also. The local broadcast station is downtown and is probably less than 35 miles away from us. I guess I`ll just have to get off my lazy butt and go to astore and look around. thanks again.

Hey! When I was a kid one of my grandpas' brothers lived in south central Mo. in a hollow. He could pick up all the way from St Louis. He could get 3 or 4 stations in pretty good. All he had for an antenna was a set of metal bed springs on the roof!:D

Maybe you could stick a better one up in the attic.
That's what a lot of people do when their HOA won't allow outside antenas.

All the new digital frequencies (high definition) are UHF. Be sure to get an antenna or rabbit ears with UHF capability (same as current analog channels 14 and higher). The broadcasters in my area are already simulcasting in digital and analog. Of course you will need a HDTV ready TV to receive these signals. By 2009 you will need a converter box to receive the signals for an old analog TV when broadcasters stop sending the old channel 2 through 13 signals and current analog UHF signals.

Don`t have access to a attic. I`m just going to have to make do with the rabbit ears. I just want to get the local channel. I`ll have to look around this weekend. Thanks.
