I just purchased a set of reproduction 3/4 quarter skins. I have a 67 chevelle. I went to the body shop today and asked for a price and they said I should get full quarters. Problem is I got the car about 2 years ago and the previouse owner put a brand new vinal top on, and the quarters that are on the car now are the originals, with the vin still in them. Should I rip the new vinal top off and get full quarters or use the partial quarters. Is there a big difference in the amount of time to install and quality of install. The originals have rust through about an inch around the wheel wells and the bottom behind the tire. Patch pannels dont cover all the rust. Thanks.

Why is the right thing always the most expensive?
If you use the 3/4 panels your will have to weld them in all around and have to hide the seam with bondo. If you use full panels the seams are in hiden areas and when it's done you don't have to smear a 1/2 gallon of bondo on them. It's your call. Check the price on a new vinyl top, I don't think it to expensive.

Ive got to say the same thing shovel said.
Since you are having a shop install quarters the labor rate of the 3/4 vs the full is pretty big in my book. 3/4 take much more time to line up, cut, fit and weld. The fulls pretty much fall into place.

Plus in the end you get a better end result with the full OEM quarters. But this is my opinion. Since the shop has asked you to get fulls they might just rake you over coals if you have them install 3/4 and they know fulls are avaible. Might happen...Eric

The shop said I can come and help whenever I want and He offered me a job the second time I saw him so I dont think hes gona rake me over the coals. He also invited me along to go racing with him. (modifieds on dirt track)

so does anyone know were to get a set of full quarters without having to order from year one or OPGI. Shipping is $175 to get them to me. Thanks

Your local body shop might be able to get goodmark parts themselves. have them check if any of their aftermarket part suppliers are Goodmark dealers. We get aftermarktet parts from Northstar now keystone and Souix plating. Soiux plating is a goodmark dealer and NOT listed on the goodmark website.

The great thing about that is if the parts come damaged the shop can look at them and return them WITHOUT freight charges back. Plus they might be able to get them cheaper. I bought full OEM for my 70, list out as 500 bucks I bought mine for 410-420!

Check out the goodmark site and see if any dealers are located in your state that way you can pick them up, inspect and save shipping charges...Eric

If your vinyl top is "solid" it could be pulled up and reinstalled after the quarters are installed. I have done this many times, if the top is in good shape like it sounds like yours is, it is very easy.

Have your bodyshop call Goodmark. All they have to do is give their Tax ID # and they can get a "jobber" account. Probably about 20% off list and the shipping for two quarters to a commercial address is $95. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
