Yesterday I checked my valve springs and they are crap. 140 seat pressure to 180 fully compressed. Today a guy gave me a set of springs but I don't know if they will work. I have THIS (http://www.compperformancegroupstores.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CC&Product_Code=11-250-3&Category_Code=) cam and a set of 336781 BBC heads with 2.19 Intake/1.88 Exhaust valves. The springs I was given are new stock double springs from a set of 990 heads. I had them checked 180 lbs seat pressure and 380 lbs compressed. I can not find any Info on comp cam website except that recomended spring is 924-16??? Can anybody help me find out if these springs will work and not wipe my cam ect!!!! I am going to put some aluminum heads on and install a roller cam this winter, and I only have 1 more race this year so free is good, because i will be buying all new stuff this winter.

Go ask Don Campbell. He built the motor. I have been running 4 years with the same springs etc. and no problems. We check the springs 2 times a summer.

Don Campbell won't tell me anything because I am not the origanal buyer of this car/engine. I have asked on several ocasions for the specs on this engine by phone and e-mail and he won't give me anything. I have given up on that outfit. I even asked for a price to install Edelbrock heads and a fuel injection system and have it dyno tuned and he diden't even get back to me on that :mad: . Screw him. I can't belive he cheaped out and put these crappy single springs in, they are way under spec from what Pro Comp recomends. I will be buying an engine next year for my new race car and it will be from Shafiroff. But I am not bitter :p

Don't get all upset yet. It's too bad he doesn't want to help you but there are plenty of other people that will be willing to help you. You know what cam is in the motor, I believe comp cam recommends thier 930-16 springs for that cam. Ask around at local engine builders and see what they use on cams of that size. Then install the springs and have fun.

Thanks, I went back and added that I was not bitter :D . Pro Comp recomends 924-16 springs. I orderd them, I might as well make sure I have the proper stuff rather than screw something up.

Make sure your guides are machined for the small seals. The 924's need the smaller seals.
If you need some names of GOOD builders in Calgary or Edmonton give me a call. I'll be home Monday night as we are in Edm this weekend.

CC 924-16 valve springs from my old 2002 cat.;

115# @ 1.900" and 322# @ 1.200"!

Coil bind at 1.175" and a 296#/" rate.

Really nothing fancy about them at all, imho..

Bear,
How are you checking your springs ? I find it very hard to believe that a spring would have 140# seat pressure and then only have 180# fully compressed ???? That is only a 40# difference .... something does not sound right.

180# seat pressure is way too much for a flat tappet hydraulic cam. I would not go any more than 120 seat and maybe 320 at full lift.

I had them checked at a machine shop and 140/180 are the #'s they gave me. I was standing right there when they did it. I got my new set of 924-16 springs so tomorrow I will put them in.

LevonH, the guides are machined for the small seals, I just checked that out. Good luck in Edmonton this weekend. We have our last race here next weekend. I will give you a call about builders, I am just in the midlle of dealing on a roller. Then I got to sell my Harley and start thinking about an engine.

I willing to bet the shop rated them 140@1.85 and 180 @ 1.95 , they never gave you 1.25 specs . What do you think?
