After shooting clear on a small repair with my mini jet knock off that has a 1.0mm tip I am tempted to get a clear gun ie SATA 2000 digital RP with a 1.2mm tip anybody use this verses a 1.3mm for clear?

Your fluid tip determines the maximum amount of material that can be put out of the gun, I like a 1.3 minimum for clear with 1.4 being better for some of the higher solid clears. If your doing a complete you'll need enough volume to get the product on in a reasonable amount of time.

What gun we talking here?
There is a SATA RP which stands for Reduced Pressure. It exceeds the 10psi aircap rating but yet has the required transfer efficienty of an HVLP. A breed of conventional gun and HVLP gun.

Sata also makes a NR2000 gun in which I understand they have dropped the NR part and now just go by 2000. These guns are HVLP guns.

Anyway here is NO such gun called 2000 RP or RP2000.

I have a RP with a 1.3 and a NR2000 with a 1.4
I like both guns, the NR2000 saved a tad more paint, less overspray too I think.
If I was painting full time like I did in the past I would get another NR2000 but with a 1.3 tip.

Also if I remember right they only(did at one time)offer the 1.2 in the RP model and NOT the NR2000.

I know a few painters with 1.2 for base simply cause it breaks up the metallics so well. But never heard of anyone using it for clear. Most guys I know use a 1.3 clear...Eric

Are ya sure??? http://www.sata.com/Produkte/produkt.jsp?index=02-22&menu=15,05 Found this while looking at the Sata site. I think they used to have a bunch of paint companies listed and what gun and tip they recommended. Mike

For my money the Sata RP is THE BEST gun I've sprayed with, I use the 1.4 tip. It also has a very low CFM usage which makes it great for home use. Just my .02 Mike

I like the NR2000 over the RP it simply fits my style better, either one is a great gun.
What does the Sharpe T1 offer over a SATA?
The T1 one uses more air then the RP.
Plus the digital feature is awesome!!

A good friend of mine has just become a dealer for Iwata. He's sold every other make and model and says the Iwata guns are the best he's ever used. The Sata RPdigital was his favorite but he says the Iwata atomizes much better. This guy has sold and demo'd paint for PPG and Sikkens and has tried just about every gun out there, so I've been thinking about borrowing one to try. Iwata is a big name in airbrushes but I hadn't heard about their sprayguns till recently. Has anyone here tried one out? I've been using the old style Satajet nonHVLP for years, might be time to upgrade. Bob

I just stopped at a local shop that was bragging about a new gun they bought after testing quite a few, Iwata LPH-400. The painter says it atomizes and transfers material better than anything he's seen, Now I have to try one out.

Tried the 400, didn't impress me. But... my nephew has an Iwata that's about half the size of a regular gun AND you can loosen and tilt the cup 360 degrees, great for bikes.
Guess it depends on how ya paint and your style,I hammer everything on and move fast MOST guns I've tried just don't put enough material on even with the same size tips.
I agree the RP digital is really cool. Mike

I have six Iwata guns, love them all. 2 LPH-94's for base, and 2 regular gravity feed non-hvlp for the nasty PPG clear. All 1.4 tips. I can't spray PPG Global clears with ANY hvlp gun. Seem to be too thick.

I use a Sata Rp with a 1.3. I also use a GEO FX with a 1.0 tip. That is one sweet gun. Kind of a different breed od gun so its not really apples to apples when comparing the GEO 1.0 to the Sata 1.3.
