: Another hood question

Ok I think I found what I want. At Unlimited Products its:
H-285 4-3/4" HIGH COWL INDUCTION HOOD, Pin H 299.00 25lbs.

It's for a 70-72 Chevelle. I have a 71' El Camino so it'll work. I know I will have to run pins up front but I do that anyways because the latch that comes with our cars is easily accesible for Jo Blow and I am not fond of that. But the part I am suprised about is that this hood uses the factory hinges and sales for 150 less than Harwood (I know that's Latch but their pin on is for all four corners)

So that brings me to my question has anyone used Unlimited Products Hoods and or this specific application? Or am I wrong in any aspect of what I'm thinking? If so correct me now please because the truck shipping isn't very forgiveable.

Finally once I do get my hood what would be a reasonable cost for paint on the hood? I'll want it blue w\white racing strips similiar to blaubour's (sp?) 70' Chevelle scheme.

Did I mention I am wanting to SALE my Functional Cowl Hood? Anyone interested?

We used an Unlimited 2 inch cowl hood on our 65 and had several problems;

1. Hood needed major work to get it straight for paint.
2. Finished very rough on the underside.
3. After about a year it began to crack and warp.

We then ordered a Glasstec 4 inch Cowl Hood. We paid about $150.00 more for it and it has front latch and uses stock hinges (using lighter springs).Finished top and bottom and has the plenium built to the underside where the air cleaner sits right in it. It would have been cheaper to get the Glasstec in the first place, You get what you pay for. :rolleyes:

Ok so it seems like I can scratch off Unlimited. Would the next best be Harwood? If so where would be the best place to get it at? I assume Jegs or Summit if so are there any good discounts or such at either for what I'm interested in? thanks

This may sound funny, but I bought my Harwood Hood (4") for my Mustang at a 4 X 4 shop. So, check a local shop and see if they will order it for you. It saved me shipping to my house, which would have been an extra $80.00. I paid less for the hood then at Jegs or Summit and I didn't have to pay shipping. I strongly recommend Harwood. I left my hood unpinned twice and had minimul damage to the hood. It did crack (two small cracks about an inch in width) on the second "flight" after it hit the roof of my car. But, a little black spray paint held the looks of the hood over until I had the chance to have it painted. Now, the underside of the hood I had was unfinished, which really didn't matter to me because when I took the hood off, I put the underside toward the grass anyway; noone can tell the difference if they can't see it.
Good luck and post pix when you make up your mind.

Do you want pictures of my old guages? If so ok but they are just your ordinary sweep speed with fuel guage.

Chevelledude71 what kind of place did you get your hood from? If so do they happen to have the type of hood i'm looking for? Where abouts are u located? thanks

Sorry, I thought the gauges were something different.
I bought my hood from a 4 x 4 shop in North Carolina. I live in VA now, I was just saying that maybe you can check a shop around your way. Someone might be able to help you out around there, i'm sure.
