I was going through my inventory of spare parts and was wondering about a pair of new, in the wrapper, GM mouldings I bought years ago, at Carlisle. They were supposed to be for a '69 Malibu. I mentioned them to one of my "car-nut" freinds, yesterday, and he didn't believe that the '68 and '69 cars came with rocker mouldings. I wasn't sure, not remembering if I ever saw a '68 or '69 with them. I have some old "crash" manuals that do show the '68 with a medium width moulding and the '69 shows a narrow spear-type moulding, like I have. That particular book doesn't give part numbers and I'll have to copy the numbers off the wrappers tomorrow, in case anyone can shed some light on the subject. I haven't seen them in resto supply houses, but I doubt the SS would have offered them, so maybe not much demand. Thanks for any info.

1969 Chevelle 300 Deluxe Models had a thin spear rocker moulding. That is it for 69 Chevelle rocker mldgs. I believe the same mldg fits 69 -70 el Camino as well. I'd have to check to book to be sure on that one.

Woj is right per pics in the '69 dealer brochure. Non-SS 300 Deluxe cars got a spear just below the doors, both 2 dr and 4 dr. Probably be different lengths since the WB and distance between wheel wells is different between 2 dr and 4 dr. Don't know about the equivalent wagons and Elkies though.

Our '69 el Camino also came with the spear moulding.

Thanks for all the feedback, now the question is, I wonder what they're worth.

I bought an NOS set on ebay several years back for $70. I have since seen a few other pairs go by on ebay, but don't recall any high prices.

The 300 Deluxes seem to be fetching a few more bucks these days, mostly to be made into SS sedan clones, in which case you wouldn't need the moulding. They are worth a few bucks, but I wouldn't expect to make a killing on them.

Just had a few more thoughts for this conversation. I have a Malibu based 69 SS which has 2 unexplained 1/4" holes on both factory original doors drilled about 3/4" in from the front and back edges of the doors; 3 1/4" up from the bottom edges and just below the lower body line. I don't believe that lower moldings were used on SS models and mine did not have moldings there when I bought it, but I have wondered about these holes a few times; even questioning, in the beginning, if I had a true SS. Now, however, aftering tearing down the car during the restoration process, I am 100% convinced I have a true SS. If these holes were for moldings, I just wonder if they may have been dealer installed items for someone who just liked the look of them. I am curious if the moldings you have look like they would match the holes I described above. Also, if you can list the part numbers, I have a copy of an original Chev parts manual which may shed some light on the ones you have.

These are definitely rocker panel mouldings, too long to fasten to a door.
Part numbers are same, so right and left are symmetrical, 1-3952495.
Thanks for your feedback.

I did find a listing in my parts manual for your number 3952495. It is listed for use with a 1970 2 door Chevelle Coupe & Convertible. Actual listing looked like this:
8.304 Moulding Unit Rckr.
(13437)...........3952495
I can't verify if it was or wasn't used on 69 or other years. However, I believe the actual rocker panels were the same for years 68-72. Hope this might help in your attempt to sell the moldings.

Thanks for the info on the numbers. However, the '70 - '72 rocker mouldings are all the same and they're approx. the same width as the rocker panels themselves. I have such a set I bought from the local Chevy dealer about 20 yrs. ago, for my '70 Chevelle. (I'll have to scare them up and give you that part number, as they are also still sealed in GM wrappers) These '69? mouldings are narrow spears, probably not more than 3/4 " wide and taper on each end.
