: Turn signal Woes!

Okay, I've been fixing a bunch of small problems with my 1966 SS Chevelle today. It's a four speed with the center console...no tilt wheel.

Now I need to fix the turn signal lever. I have a friend who got into the Chevelle and caught his pant leg on the lever and bent it so it hangs down. The turn signals still work but the turn signal cancelling feature when making a left turn doesn't work any more (That's the way the lever is bent down). I have done a couple of searches on the site but didn't find any posts that directly answer all of the questions that I have. I also looked on page 159 of the assembly manual but it isn't detailed enough.

My questions are:

1) What will I need to order (and who has) so that this can be fixed?

2) Are all the parts readily availble to fix this or will I have to resrt to finding used or NOS stuff? I'd really like to have the turn signal lever back in the correct position and functioning correctly. I'm assuming that at a minimum I'll need a new lever and possibly the piece that cancels out the turn signal at the end of the turn...

3) Is there anything else that I should replace while I have it all apart?

4) Is this easy to do...or will it take a while?

4) Are any special tools needed to fix this?

5)Anybody have a step by step procedure for this ?

I can drive the car the way it is now...but I'd like to make it work correctly. I'd also like to assemble everything and have it ready before I start working on it.

Any and all help and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Bruce

Remove steering wheel, (need puller) Remove horn ass. Remove screw that holds turn sig. lever on. If its just the lever that's bent, try to straiten it and reinstall.

What he said :waving:

and yes, new lever arm should be easy to get and canceling cam if needed.. neither expensive and easily to install when you get wheel off and horn assembly out...

Thanks for the help guys!

There are two turn signal switches for 66. Both are available from M&H. It's possible that you can just change the cam. If you have the Guide switch here's (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/64-65-66-Chevelle-turn-signal-cancel-cam_W0QQitemZ160035803532QQihZ006QQcategoryZ40018Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) one currently on eBay. You can view pics of the two switches by visiting M&H (http://www.wiringharness.com), search on 66 Chevelle.

It's much easier to change the cam than the entire switch. However in the long run the new switch may be the better choice.

Elree...Thanks!

So according to M&H, I'ts either p/n 003871115 or 00911051 for the whole switch. I wonder what the difference is?

As far as the turn signal lever...Ground up has P/n IT3028 and OPG has CHV3028 (I'm assuming they're the same) for 14.95.

What else would I need to get?

Thanks again for all of your help.

387115 (http://www.wiringharness.com/images/parts/00387115.jpg) is the BPC. 911051 (http://www.wiringharness.com/images/parts/00911051.jpg) is the Guide.

So...Do I need to take the steering apart to know which one I have?

The only way to determine what switch you have, that I know of, is to remove the steering wheel.
