: '69 Location of GM Mark of Excellence Decal
Jeff Mar 16th, 01, 9:03 PM Hi All,
I am trying to determine the exact location of the blue square GM "Mark of Excellence" decals on my '69 SS. Do they go on the door jamb, or the edge of the door itself? Do they go on each side of the car, or only the driver's?
Thanks for any help.
Jeff
micky69396 Mar 17th, 01, 6:39 AM I dont believe the 69's had the GM door decal. Only thing in the drivers door should be the tire pressure sticker and the blue VIN decal

orig69ss Mar 17th, 01, 5:37 PM I bought 69ss new and all it had was a tire pressere sticker and blue vin label and thats the way Micky restored the car.

Did the blue VIN label have a GM logo on it? I haven't seen these available anywhere (maybe repro with blank VIN?) I put a blue GM sticker on my '69 in place of it.

Jeff Mar 19th, 01, 5:45 AM 69396ss,
I checked out your pics of the engine bay restoration. Looks great! I have been wanting to do the exact same thing to my engine compartment. I just assumed I would have to remove the inner fenders to paint them. Did you leave them on when you painted them? Also, what exact paint did you use for the inner fenders. Did you use spray cans or spray gun?
Thanks,
Jeff
orig69ss Mar 19th, 01, 2:07 PM Hi Von, the blue vin tag has a small GM logo on it plus mfg by General Motors Corp the date and vin number and thats about all, I dont think its legal to reproduce this sticker.
Steve Cuddihy Mar 20th, 01, 3:01 PM My 69 convertible was all original and it had the blue GM mark of excellence on the drivers door above the tire pressure sticker.
I bought my car from the original owner in 76 and it had not had any work done to it.
The 67 & 68 Mark of Excellence decal was turquoise, the 1969 was blue. I remember all the original '69s as having them on the driver's door. My original 1967 carries them on both doors from stock.
Super70 Mar 22nd, 01, 9:28 AM What about on a 70 Chevelle? 71?, 72? If so, blue vice turquoise? I'd also like to put on the blue VIN sticker if I could. I have all docs representing car as numbers matching so it shouldn't be a big deal to have one made. Saw an ad at one time someone had made some repros, all that had to be done was to have the VIN # placed on it. Anyone know where to get these?
Reason for all this is I'm restoring my car to original, otherwise I wouldn't really be so anal about having all these stickers and other markings on my car. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
hanseng123 Jul 31st, 06, 9:14 PM I've seen them on EBay from several people, some offer to put your VIN and build date on for an extra fee.
JWagner Jul 31st, 06, 10:26 PM Are the "Mark of Excellence " stickers still available? I have 4 left over from my days at GM in 1970/71 and they still look pretty good. For you detail oriented types, they say "mactac" on the peel off paper on the back.
