In preparation for painting the door jambs, I removed the old roof rail weatherstrip and noticed that it fits in a chrome “gutter” or “channel” that screws to the top of the roof rail. I’d like to remove this piece and clean up all the adhesive so that I can apply paint. If I remove it, what can I use when putting it back in? Will weatherstrip adhesive do the trick? Thanks for any help. Scot

I took some 3M "camper shell" weatherstripping (sticky sided neoprene)
and placed on the channel. i used strip caulking along the edge, and placed over tip screw heads on the inside part of the channel. Glue the weather strip in with 3M Black.

If you are careful you can pull this moulding down without hurting the seal usually, when the time comes you can just use the screws to put it back up nd it will still seal. If you need to replace the seal we use black strip caulk and it works fine also. I personally do not glue in any of the weatherstrips back in, no need to if everything is clean and done properly, your roof rail should have had very little if any on it anyway.
