Started(key word) changing out the body bushings on the Z Meano this am. Things went well until... I got to the cowl bolts
Left side wasnt too bad after dropping the inner fender I was able to hold the square nut with a prybar in order to free the bolt.
Lucky that the bolt didnt snap as the bolt shank had corroded away to about 1/4 of its original thickness. The right side I'm still working on, cant get a socket or anything in there to hold the nut so here comes my favorite dis assembly tool, the SAWZALL.
Just took a break and decided to share some of my misery

Would LOVE to meet the engineer that designed those square nuts...........Basturd wasnt thinkin of us poor fools 30 years down the road.Liquid heat wrench, channel locks, vise grips, sawsall( sittin there ready to use), then finally tack welding the nut to the body and lots of cussing later with running the bolt up and down to break the rust up and not the bolt.
By the way I'm not to the putting together part yet but would like to know if anyone has had trouble with the length of the bolts supplied with the body mount kits.I had to reuse the originals on the radiator core support cause they werent long enough.

Finished it up a hour or 2 ago I used supplied hardware for the Core support and the 2 cowl bolts didn't have any trouble with length.
BTW if you have good access to those square nuts a 12 point 1 1/4 socket fits on them.
Much better ride now http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
Now to fix me with some liquid for wrenches=Beer http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Philip,
Glad to see it didn't turn into a multi-day project. One of these trips to AZ I gotta stop over and see the finished product!

I had trouble with the mounts near the rear axle, had to set them free with the sawzall as well. Glad it worked out for you.
