Need to know if my 72 Malibu panel between the trunk and convertible top is supposed to have seams separating the rear quarters to the panel itself. Ours is all sealed up and we have seen on the hardtops they are not filled in. Everyone seems to know, but we have two different answers. Thanks.

Convertible are not suppose to have the seam there, only hardtops.

Do you have any idea why they were sealed? We are having our car restored and are thinking about not sealing them just to stop them from cracking up again? Good idea or not? Not sure if it makes any real difference. Thanks again, Cathy

You need to fix the problem or it will keep coming back. Uusually the QP's on a ragtop need the lead taken out and the seams welded up. The factory did a lousy job on it.

Don't put any plastic filler in that seam area or it will crack again. The only way to fix it is to weld the seam and grind it smooth and finish accordingly.
