I put in a new Accel HEI Distributor and coil assy (Tan Cap)....Now the Tachometer (Stock Knee Knocker) is way off and reads about 1/4 of what it should.....I contacted the Tech line at Accel thru Email and they said to get one of the MSD Tach Correction wires and add it into the system.........Ordered one, installed it, and the Tach just stays at zero......does'nt work at all.......Any Ideas.......You would think that Accel would have this figured out by now, I'm sure I'm not the first one to have this problem...........

The plot thickens...........I had a problem where the car would just quit running, I have a 700R4 hooked up to the column shifter.........so I would have to come to a stop and put it in park to restart........it would restart immediately and run perfectly fine again........I thought it was the Ignition Module in the HEI going bad.......that's why I decided to just put in a new Ignition system and the Tach problem came up.........
Now..........In driving the car.....the same thing still happens.......It just quits running, but restarts at the tap of the key......the engine is a 406 with a mild cam, I drove the car on the entire Power Tour this year without any problems at all.........Before leaving on the PT , I put in a Alumitech Radiator/Dual Spal fan assy and added a 100 amp alternator.........the only thing that I can think of is that for some reason, maybe when the fans kick on they momentarily pull all the power out of the system and cause the Ignition to fail........Any Idea's.........

Thanks

Doubtful, especially if you are feeding the fans direct battery voltage thru relays. If you aren't, you should be. :)

That's the way they are hooked up...........Any ideas on what to check.......I'm at a loss where to look.........I thought maybe the low Tach readings might be a clue??

Thanks

Does it only quit running when you are coming to a stop? Does the engine struggle some before quiting, or does it just quit like you turned off the key? Lockup converter may not be unlocking. For the tach, I would go back to the to a original HEI and use a GM 990 or a NAPA module.

It just quit's .......can be driving at 30 mph and it just shuts off.......No pattern......just a random thing.....but it starts with just a tap on the key

When it stops running, I'd guess it is losing power to the hei. This could be a loose connection anywhere. You might remove and reseat the connector on the ignition switch as well as the bulkhead connector on the firewall and the power connector on the hei.

This link http://www.camaros.net/techref/electrical/tachfilter/ takes you to a tch article I wrote on how to build a tach filter, on Team Camaro where I moderate electrical. The filter is easy to make and will probably fix your tach.
