I have been reading a ton of welding info here, including Martinsr's welding clinic from a while back and am now convinced that my flux-core wire has to go since I will be welding some visible areas soon. I will be shopping for a gas setup for my Lincoln Pro-135 unit this weekend and wanted some tips on what to look for and what to avoid. Where should I buy it ?
Thanks guys smile.gif

Lincoln makes a gas add on kit that seels for about $80 at Lowes that has everything you need. Do you currently have a tank or empty tank of gas? If you do not have a core tank or you have a tank and its not up to code you will spend more money there. Also, depending on your setup, you may have to buy an adapter to fit the Lincoln regulator to the tank.
I bought my lincoln already having a welding kit with it and I spent $125 on the adpter, new tank, and gas. I hope this is what you needed to know?

contact your proposed gas supplier. They may have tanks for sale or lease that contain the correct mixture of gases for auto sheet metal welding. In my city, my supplier has tanks of "autoweld" gas for this purpose. Thats what I ask for when I exchange my empty tank for a refilled one. They last a long time doing only one car restoration at a time.

Hey John, I just got a gas bottle from a local supply (United Welding) here in LaPorte. The guy had several size bottles, but he talked me into a bigger bottle than I was prepared to buy ($125). The reason is if you get a small bottle, you will be filling it up every other day. It is $17 to refill it (75/25 CO2/Argon). It turns out the guy restores old Impalas. I am sure he will be a good source of info down the road.

It seems to me that my welder may have come with the "kit" for gas use. I will look tonight for that. Kevin, thanks but LaPorte may as well be Beaumont for me as I am on the far west side of Houston. I will look for a supplier a bit closer to home, but thanks for the tip about what you found. graemlins/thumbsup.gif That is what I will look and ask for.

Bhawk, I will also ask about the "autoweld" mix, thanks graemlins/waving.gif

I looked last night in my Lincoln box and it did come with the regulator, spool of .025 wire and gas hose for a gas setup. graemlins/clonk.gif graemlins/clonk.gif

I also have a welding gas supply nearby in Katy so it looks like I will be welding with gas soon. Thanks :D
