I am cleaning up my steering column (69 chevelle, floor shift, non tilt) and since I had it all apart I thought I would replace the lower bearing, but I can't figure out how to get it off. Any tips?
Thanks, John

snap ring/big e clip holds bearing retainer, remove clip, pull down on retainer then pull bearing down off

Soak with penetrating oil if the steel column jacket is rusted to the bearing retainer.

Thanks all. I had the shaft stripped down all the way, I just didn't realize it was as easy as sliding the bearing off! Now for another question .. the shaft had some grease on it which I have cleaned off. Was this to prevent rust or was it there from assembly? I assume that the only places that need lubrication is the upper and lower bearings, right?

The bearings are all that should need to be greased.
