Hey Everyone,
Just about to paint the hood stripes on my 70 El Camino. I have the stencil kit from OPG and it shows the measurments to place the stripes but I'm wondering if these measurement are in meters, millimeters, centimeters or even in inches or what? The instruction sheet is just a copy of the assmebly manual and not very specific. Any help would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Grant

If it's from an assembly manual I'd think they would be inches...I'll be doing the same to my Elky real soon... ;)

The two measurements I'm concerned with are the measurement from the front of the hood to the stripe. The assembly manual shows a measurement of .95 but that doesn't seem like an inch measurement. Part of an inch would be something like 7/8" or 15/16" and the sheet says .95 The other one is the distance from the center hood crease to the stripe. The manual says 1.66 constant and again, it doesn't seem like an inch measurement but more perhaps some metric measurement instead. Thanks for the reply and I hope someone might know exactly what the measurements were. :D

Hi Grant
What the assembly manual is giving you is the decimal equivalant to a fraction.
Like .250 would = 1/4 inch,
.387= 3/8, .500=1/2, .625=5/8 .750=3/4 and 1.00=1 inch. I would think with the numbers you have given the .95 is about 63/64 or .005 thousands from being an inch and the 1.66 is about 1 inch and between 5/8 and 11/16. I am interpolating the .66 of the messurment knowing that .625 is equal to 5/8. I would recomend getting a decimal to fractions conversion sheet. you can find them at most industerial supplyers or you should be able to find them on line.

Go to a machine shop supply store and ask for a machinists scale(ruler) they come in 6 and 12 inch lenghts. I work in aviation and all blueprints (same as technical drawings for aurtomotive assembly) are referenced in decimal for greater presicion.

You might be able to get the machinest scale ruler from MacMaster Carr or MSC or Granger if you don't have a supplier close by. They usually have them in stock and can have you one with in a couple of days. And they might be a bit less expensive through mail order. Hope this helps
