Just took the body off the frame on my 69 and i am starting to scrape the bottom of the floorpans. Is there a easy way to remove the undecoating or a chemical to soften it to make removal a little easier?

Use a heat gun and putty knife. Brake cleaner will get off the remaining residue.

Put the heat on the opposite side that the coating is on.

Just finished this nasty job.I wound up using a propane torch and scraper. After it was done to residual i used gas and kerosene after the heat like week after.

This is not an answer, but a related question. I was hopeing I could sandblast it off of my car. Would that work ?

Sandblasting wont remove the undercoating. You need to remove the undercoating first then sandblast. The sand just cant cut through all that tar...Eric

I've had some luck with easy off oven cleaner. Spray it on, let it set overnight, and use a stiff bladed scraper. The 70 I have now is covered with the stuff. I also purchased a tightly wound rope type wire wheel that I attached to my angle grinder. This works quickly but sure makes a royal mess. Completed the bottom of the trunk floor in an hour.

Thanks to all who replied. I went out and bought a heat gun and it has made the job much easier. Doesn't take that long to get it off but the floor seems like its getting bigger as i scrape. Have alomost one whole side done in about 2 1/2 hrs.
