I've converted from a points distributor to an HEI; and now my starter does work like normal. What I mean is I turn the key over to the right and the engine will crank but will not actually start until I let the key return to the left. I've also noticed that when the car is running and I want to turn it off if I accidently turn it to the "Acc" to the far left it will keep running. I obviously have my wires crossed, but where?

Bill, where are you getting your power for the HEI from...The power wire to the HEI must have power in the crank and run positions. Doesnt sound like you have power in the crank position...Look on your fuse box for an ign terminal that you can connect to..

Sounds like you have the power feed wire to the HEI "BAT" terminal connected to ACC instead of IGN.
ACC doesn't get power during cranking

Thanks guys for your responses, I'll check the power wiring when I get home from work.

Steve...I wired to the the ignition terminal on the fuse box like you suggested but the car doesn't turn on now. Come to find out that the ignition terminal is only showing 3.2 volts with the key in the on position (original fuse block). Is there another place that I can tap into? or will have to splice into one of the ignition switch wires.
