Guys,

I'm going to be painting my street/strip TERROR myself in the next few months. I've decided the color will be black. I know it shows everything, but I think I'm just about ready for it.

Since this will be my first paint project and since I've chosen a solid color, I was considering going with PPG Concept single stage urethane for ease of use. My concern is whether or not I can get the single stage to shine like I want. I will be color sanding and polishing either way.

I'm going to try some of the Concept out using my old steel hood as a test panel, but I was just looking for some first hand knowledge before I blow any free time which is very short right now.

You can check some of the body work on my website listed in the sig.

Thanks,

i'm no expert on painting, doing my first job right now, but i would do bc/cc. reasons being it will give you the deep wet luster you're probably looking for and it is easier to fix mistakes. if you see a run in your base coat (or a bug. big problem for me) you can sand it out and shoot clear over it no problems. but i've heard that with single stage you'll need to respray the whole area you sanded with color.

btw i'm using the deltron 2000 bc/cc system.

Jason, we should get together and you help me with my suspension & 60 ft times, and I'll help you paint your car!
You didn't say what color you're going with, but I can tell you that a properly polished single stage urethane paint job will have the look you want. For instance; I painted my buddy's Camaro black with a BC/CC system. Came out nice and is slick smooth. I then painted my current Chevelle with a single stage (PPG) Black. Wet sanded it the same as the black BC/CC. Mine looks deeper and blacker than the cleared Camaro. When we went to shows or cruises together, he wouldn't park next to me! My buddy is Pissed! Red, white, black, yellow all looks good in single stage. Single stage all the way. It will sand and buff good, and be easier to repair, especially chips. What color are you going with?

Jimmy,

Thanks!!!!

That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I think I will go ahead and get a quart of the single stage and shoot my old hood for "practice."

Seriously, if you need some help with the suspension let me know. I've got a welder and a 12-ton press if you just want to put some new bushings in and box the stock arms. But first get some SLICKS!! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks Again,
