: What would you suggest....

I just got my first car, a 1968 Chevelle. Now she's my baby. smile.gif
But I don't like the paint job that's on it and I was wondering what you guys would suggest a nice paint colour/job.
I know what I don't want.
1 - not red. It's too used and common.
2 - No racing strips. I don't like them.
I don't want to mess this car up! lol

Any suggestions?

I did mine Grabber Green with some pearl white stripes. Looks good. Get rid of the stripes and I think it would still look good.

My suggestion is to keep an eye open for colors, ehem, colours ;) that you like. Walk the dealership lots, look in the rod mags, check out the signatures here and decide on something that you like.

You say you don't like the paint that's on it..... What does the trim tag (on top of the firewall - drier's side) say? You may like the original color.

The original facotry colours (Yes, I know, the 'u'.. I'm Canadian! lol) were the red with black strips, now it's painted blue (much like the colour of blue as Turbo's car) with white sides and hood. It doesn't look BAD, it's just not what I want.

I am leaning more towards a blue, just not quite as dark as yours, Turbo. But I also don't want it to be plain.

Buttercream yellow is my favorite for that year model. But those cars also look good in silver.

ChevelleGirl,

Congradulations on the car

I've had several '68s and the colour I liked best is Ermine [sp] White with the SS stripes for the '68 SS. You said that you did not want/like stripes, but perhaps you are talking about the "racing stripes" that are on some '69s and so many of the later cars. Are you familiar with the '68-unique stripes that go around the nose and lower portion of the car? I think the look cool....

...so my vote is E. White w Black '68 Stripes ;)

I second the vote for white with the black SS side stripes.
Take a look at my old 69 Elky in my sig for an idea(forget the hood stripes though)

There is another guy on here somewhere with a white 69 SS chevelle with the black 69 side stripes and it Looks KILLER... 68 with the correct 68 ss stripes would also look great.

I'm a girl, but that's as far it goes. I'd rather be underneath a car than on a beack in a bikini (driving a pink car) flirting with guys... So, No pink. smile.gif

I have no comment on paint color. BUT I must applaud the gentlemen of the body shop forum! The usual custom in bench racing is to fawn all over any female TC'er until she's afraid to post anymore :D

Carry on.... graemlins/beers.gif

Shoot, I'd drive a pink car, but it would have to be an old caddy or a panther pink challenger.

How about a crazy shade of purple? Purple is a nice color with lots of shades to choose from.

I am very partial to purple cause its my favorite color. graemlins/hurray.gif (THE only guy who has purple as their favorite color.) If i could, i would have everything in my house purple.

Here is the pics of that White 69 Chevelle SS. His member name is Coop427 or something like that... Very nice looking car - I think this combo would look great on a 68 too...

Are you trying to stay with a pick from the "correct" color line up for a '68, or are you open to any color? If you're open to any color and like a darker blue, have you checked out Fathom Blue from a '70?

If not, and you're interested, let me know. I have a recently painted '70 convert. I can email it to you. If I knew how to post it here, I would - but I don't!! Sorry.

Best of luck with whatever you decide and congratulations on the new purchase!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Before you do a repaint, how is the bodywork as it sits? And how much effort will you (or a shop, if you farm it out) put into it?

The reason I ask is because this is where 90% of what makes a great paint job lies, regardless of color. Dark colors can showcase great bodywork, but can also magnify crappy work.

Also, how "complete" of a paint job are you wanting to do (jambs, dash, cowl, etc.)? Complete color changes are a lot more involved, meaning more time and money.

Lastly, take note that a proper paint change will take some time. You may be wanting to drive you baby this summer, rather than having it all stripped down and being gone over by a longboard for hours on end.

Just some thoughts I had..... you probably have already considered all of this....in that case, just ignore me :D

Deep amthyest(spelling wrong) blue. Found on 98 dodge trucks and vans.

For a lighter shade of blue I think one of best colors Ive seen is another DODGE color intense pearl blue, found on trucks and vans from around 94 to 2002. Its pretty close to this but has more metallic and more eye catching...Its a hot color if a color can be hot smile.gif

For a pretty cool purple color I really like GM's dark mulberry PPG code 5223-GM WA 326D, found on late 90's grand am and such

Congrats on your 68'... Check my sig pics for Cortez Silver with the optional Sport Stripe. A nice non-overbearing stripe. 68' Sport Stripe was also understated and suttle.

Good luck with whatever colour you decide AY! :D

Ya, the girlies say I'm cute, but I'm not that confident to say I am.

I am very confortable with my sexuality to say I like purple. smile.gif Every girl i told that said i was weird for liking purple.

As for being cool, just ask people around here or my friends.

Rob. graemlins/beers.gif ( thinkin about painting my room purple.)
