AlMyPal39 Sep 25th, 01, 12:40 PM Are they pin holes or is the bondo actually bubbling up?
SS_Dave Sep 25th, 01, 1:13 PM They need to remove ALL the bondo and make sure there are no holes through the metal.
If there are, they need to be welded. Then a non porous filler applied over that to seal out any water that may get in from the back side.
WayneK Sep 25th, 01, 3:52 PM It sound like your Bondo/plastic filler is blistering because of the rust/moisture in the substraight below it. The only was to remedy this id to gring/remover all the plastic filler in the affected area, not just at the bubble, but also the surounding area as well. You then need to patch/WELD in new metal and then finsh.

sevt_chevelle Sep 25th, 01, 4:21 PM Bondo doesnt bubble up for no reason, and to me it sounds like moisture is getting in behind the bondo causing it to bubble. You need to grind out all of the mud and surrounding areas check for pinholes in the metal or rust spots. The only way to remove rust is to remove it all together and finish off with new metal welded in its place. You can do all the grinding and wire brushing you want but you will never remove it so replace it. Butt weld the patch panel in place, lap welding is just asking for trouble down the road. Before you apply any filler, coat the bare metal with a self etching wash primer like PPG DX1791 then apply a coat of expoy primer over the wash primer. Wait about two days scuff the expoy and apply your bondo over the expoy. Ask the shop what type of filler they use, most body shops use Evercoat's Rage or Rage Gold. I use it at work and at home and in my opinion Rage is the only filler to use.
Good luck with your project...Eric
snake Sep 25th, 01, 4:21 PM Thanks Guys but is it possible the filler it self could absoarb moister as it is being applied and drying and after it has dryed.Lets think, if the filler is put on at 10 in the mourning left all day with no primer then finished the next day.could it absoarb moister.I saw most of the work and the surface was holeless and clean. But yet i have the bondo bubbles $hit .Any outher idies.

sevt_chevelle Sep 25th, 01, 8:37 PM If your bondo sat overnight untouched then the next day sanded, it wouldnt have drawn in that much moisture or any at all. It wouldnt absorb water as its applied or drying. Somewhere along the line it got wet and wasnt dried off. A good guess could be while wet sanding the primer, they sanded through to the filler and there it absorbed the moisture. I am sticking with my first guess of moisture getting behind the filler as any tiny little hole can draw in that moisture. If cheap filler was used or mixed wrong it cracks doesnt bubble. You got to remember filler doesnt bubble just for something to do there is a reason and when filler of a premium grade like Rage is used in its intended manner and rightfully, it will last the life of the car.
snake Sep 26th, 01, 2:33 PM Ok, sevt_chevell I am convinced.I will demand that they grind it all out and lets see whats under there. Thanks for all of the replys gang.I knew I could get an answer.

67ss Sep 29th, 01, 5:10 PM The local paint company here told me awhile back that if bondo gets wet it has to sit for at least 3 days in the sun to dry out.If all the moisture that could be in the bondo or whatever isn't given enough time to evaporate, then it will come out sometime, sooner or later and cause the bubbles.I like the evercoat polyester fillers myself.I let the filler repair sit in the dry for a few days before primer to let all the miosture get out before I primer.
