: 68 grecian green confusion
bubba68ss Sep 23rd, 06, 9:07 AM Im aiming at going back to original grecian green but am not sure what exactly it will look like. Ive seen two cars that are both "grecian green" but they do not look the same...which one is correct?
Heres Bill Rose's

SSuper Dave Sep 23rd, 06, 9:35 AM The second car used to be mine. I mixed the paint using the spectrographic analyzer and matched the unfaded under trunk area. Having seen both cars in person, I think that they are the same, but the pics you have show Bill's car in the shade and mine in the sun. I have a PPG code for this paint if you are interested. I do not know how Bill matched and mixed his paint, mine was DBU bc/cc. I love Grecian Green, I almost went back with in on the '68 that I am building now.
Bill Rose Sep 23rd, 06, 10:43 AM I went to Sherwin-Williams, which is the brand I use, with the paint code from the trim tag and they mixed me a sample. I sprayed it on a test card, then cleared it, and it was a good match to the original paint that was still on the roof, under the vinyl top. So I ordered enough to do 4 color coats and used 3/4 of it. I wanted extra for screw-ups, scratches from reassembly....
Your gonna see different shades depending on paint brands, how the paint was applied, sunlight.... I would suggest you get a test sample like I did, then get the formula and enough to make repairs in the future. I never (so far) had to use the extra since the reassembly, but it's cheap ins.
BTW: The original owner of my 68 came uo to CB06 from his home in Alabama, and one of the hundreds of things we discused was the color. He said it looked like the original paint he had waxed a zillion times.
ChicagoChevelle68 Oct 6th, 06, 8:07 AM Hey Bubba,
The first pic looks like my '68, vinyl top and all. The first one looks correct. The second does not appear to be GG, but again different lighting too.
I have tired of the GG and will go to a metallic blue, hopefully before this winter. Working on the body now, and at the primer stage. Thinking about using the Hawthorn paint from Trinity 1945 Inc - www.paintforcars.com .
It's economical and I read many good reviews on it as well. I'll post a new thread on this soon.
Does any one have any experience with the Hawthorn product?

ChicagoChevelle68 Oct 11th, 06, 6:56 PM Here are a couple of pics of the '68...

Here I layed out my suspension parts. Was cheaper to get them online than to buy them from the parts store...and it was the same store!
It's getting ready for primer now, and will say goodby to Grecian Green.

I'd love to get the PPG code! Any more pics of that car?
Thanks-
