When mig welding body panels, is there anything special that needs to be done to the welded metal as far as rust preventative measures? TIA (thanks in advance)

There are products like rust mort, from sikkens that will prevent the rust. But I found after welding it is a good idea to let it sit with out paint for a while, cause the paint will usually bubble if you paint right after welding(there are chemical reactions and stuff that happen and the fumes need to escape)But i realy recommend rust mort from sikkens, before the primer gose on the area welded. rust mort is sandable.

There's a weld through coating that you apply prior to welding. If you look in some of the Tech Reference articles, you'll find a section on bodywork and you'll find the name of that product in there. I think it's sold through Eastwood.

Many auto parts stores like Carquest, for example, sell weld-through coating in spray cans. It's expensive, about $20 a can if I remember right.

SEM has the best weld through primer that I have found and it is only about $8.00 a can. The AUTOTECH primer is the next best and it sells for about $16.00.
