maybe this is a better place to post this???
Hey guys I have been thinking of a way to run a better track time. My best time to date is 14.9 on my 67 malibu, my first car and my daily driver to and from school about an hour away, has turned out to be a great father son project. Know where was I, traction. According to a horsepower calculator I found on the internet i am making approximately 240 or so at the wheels. I have just plain mastercraft tires, 275 60 15, I know better tires would equal better traction but at the time I did not have enough money. So my question is would my car be able to hold up to that power with some street slicks or maybe just some vht track treatment. My car is set-up as follows: 327 with a 4-speed (m20 wide ratio) new but stock clutch( a heck of a lot better than the one that was in there) 275 60 15 tires with a 12- bolt rear-end and 3.31 gears open diff. I know the obvious is to get a locker or posi. but that is a bit too much for me to be spending right know, besides if I need to I have access to street slicks, and even better I can get some track treatment for pretty cheap. So I guess I need to know if my set-up will handle traction with the little bit of power I am making I know I can get into the low 14's if only I had traction. Hope to hear from ya'll soon. Thanks.
