After looking for a while, I bought a SATA NR2000 gun with a 1.5 tip.
What are the limitations for a 1.5 tip? I bought it hoping for a good all around set up, instead of having to buy various tips. Will the 1.5 spray primers, base coats, and clear coats well? Or do I need a larger and/or smaller tip? Will I notice much difference between the tips?
Thanks,
David

My Sata Nr2000 came with a 1.4 tip.I'v sprayed everything with it.Love it.I run it at about 30-35 psi.
Sevnty has used these guns alot and can tell alot more about them.Im sure he'll be in here shortly.

Thanks flywheel! Any other experiences with or opinions about tip size?
A related question concerns buying a regulator/gauge for the gun. The SATA NR2000 doesn't come with a regulator gauge to fit on the gun. Is it worth paying extra for a SATA part ($45 to $60) or will the $10 no-name units work well? Does one get what one pays for?

When I bought my 2000 NR, my supplier told me I should use a 1.5 tip for all around usage. I insisted on a 1.7 tip even though he said it was too much. I like the 1.7, but it is really critical on the fluid adjustment. i.e., real easy to do runs!
Some folks will tell you the larger tips don't atomize the paint properly. I have aprayed lacquer primer, 2K urethane primer, base coats and two different brands of clear with mine and I don't see a problem except for the high risk of runs.
You'll get a pretty wide variety of opinions on which tip is best for the different types of paint. Listen to them all, then practice with your 1.5 and decide for yourself.

NR2000 graemlins/thumbsup.gif sweet gun
1.5 tip in that gun style is a good choice for an allround gun.
I use a NR with a 1.4 at work for sealer and base ONLY, but once in awhile shoot clear when I dont feel like cleaning two guns.
One of my personal guns is a NR with a 1.3 tip. Ill use this when I have a car with a pearl paint job or a metallic color that I have problems with. The 1.3 just breaks it up better gets better atomization.
Anyway a NR with a 1.5 will do JUST fine for an all round paint gun.

Great topic ! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
While buying all the paint goodies for my '67 at the local supply house today, I was considering purchasing a new gun and was looking at the SATA line.
Thanks for the info, guys.
What's a good price on a NR2000?

When I got my 2000 NR nearly four years ago, the jobber's COST was just over $300. Retail price is in the $450 range. They aren't cheap.

Depends on what NR2000 you get. The plain old NR Ive seen in the 380 range(ebay), the newer digital version Ive seen up around 600 bucks
