I wan to do an auto to manual conversion... will the GTO clutch & brake pedals fit in the Chevelle . . . ? Do I need the top piece that the pedals attatch to or can I use the original from the automatic setup?

Those pedals should be identical.
and you can use just the pedals, you don't need to replace the whole assembly.

correct but I find its easier to put the whole assy in. than to get the shaft in under the dash
