: If you want world class NHRA drag racing in Eastern Nebraska...
Rich-L79 Sep 21st, 06, 9:30 AM Then lend a hand a let your voice be heard!
If you can't attend the Lancaster County Planning Board meeting on Oct. 11, please make phone calls, write letters and e-mails. Let these folks know you want a track that will bring big time drag racing events to our area and provide a world class facility for local events as well. This is a full 1/4 mile track.
You can read about the details here:

Consider it done Rich.
Are you going to the Oct. 11 meeting.
If so let us know how it turns out.
Oldani Motorsports Sep 28th, 06, 5:56 PM What was the final verdict on the old Motorplex? Did they just give up on it or what? I have some nice memories from that place including 2 runner ups in Top Dragster at IHRA national events there!
73guna Sep 29th, 06, 12:02 AM Steve,
This is what Rich told me recently.
Scribner is the one that closed. Some of the pieces (grandstands, ect.) have been sold so it's not coming back, no way, no how. The multi-party agreement that created Scribner has been blown to bits (unfortunately). I don't know why it wasn't kept in operation (it was making money) while the new proposal was underway.
The guy who ran Scribner is proposing the new one. It will be on Hwy 77 near Davey. Hwy 77 is the highway that runs north out of Lincoln to Fremont and beyond. Hwy 77 is 4 lanes quite a ways north of Lincoln so getting to the proposed new track from I-80 would be easy. It could be a meaningful regional and national track if it's done right.

Yes I'm going. The more supporters that show up the better our chances.

The planning board meeting isn't until next Wednesday. I've gotten a response back from the governor's office, the planning board office and the Lincoln Journal-Star's letters to the editors desk so they are at least hearing the messages I've sent out.
If you want this track to happen, call, write, send e-mails and tell everyone you know that is interested so they can do the same. This is definitely not one of those stand on the sidelines and hope for the best situations, make your opinions be heard! Even a simple e-mail in support sent to the right people can have an impact.
Rich-L79 Oct 11th, 06, 11:10 PM Well, the planning board meeting was tonight and while there were a great deal of supporters and we outnumbered the opposition probably 3 to 1 and the opposition's ridiculously exaggerated claims and silly emotional appeals likely won't convince anyone with a brain, I still can't imagine the planning board members want to be known as the one who ruined the lives of such fine upstanding citizens.
Well, we will continue to fight the good fight and and see what happens. More phone calls, e-mails and letters sure could help our cause.
notstock71 Oct 12th, 06, 12:39 PM Rich,
Do you have links of who we can send the emails to?

Sure, review the flyer photos I posted in the first post of this thread. A list of e-mails and phone numbers are provided. Don't bother with the Governor, he wrote me back saying it was a local issue and he can't get involved. Concentrate on the planning board, commissioner and write letters to the editor of your (Omaha) paper and the Lincoln paper. The Journal-Star printed my letter to the editor.

Rich-L79 Oct 25th, 06, 11:15 PM The Planning Board in their infinite wisdom voted 5-4 against recommending approval. Of course the County Commissioners can still do what they want, but this is a step in the wrong direction. At least the 5-4 split shows that not everyone on the board is an idiot.
ELLI Oct 26th, 06, 7:46 AM Personally think they should approach the Lincoln Airport Authority about building some sort of a permenant facility on the old West Ramp at the airport. There is plenty of room, and you already have the noise there from the airport. Plus the Airport Authority is seperate from all of the other City/County government agancies, and they can pretty much do what they want with thier land. Also the Airport Authority is very willing to invest money, and work with people and businesses to develop parts of the old Lincoln Air Base for new uses. The only downside is that all land on the airport can only be leased long term, not sold. But the upside is that most of the time the Airport Authority will help with the construction costs.

Perhaps we should pass this information on to the guy trying to develop the strip. Whom would we contact at the Airport Authority?
ELLI Oct 31st, 06, 9:31 AM I'm not sure who would be the best person to contact at the Airport, but I would bet that a call to (402) 458-2400 which is the Airport Authority offices would be a good start. I can remember my dad talking about drag racing going on at the airport back 20 or so years ago. The problem was back then that the Airport authority was trying to mainting as much of the old Bomber ramp as possible in order to try and entice a large shipping company to make Lincoln their hub, so they would not allow anyone to make permenant changes to the ramp area. I would personally suggest the airport location for another reason. It is in Lincolns plan to put in a 4 lane road connecting Highway 34 and the interstate, and I believe it will run right down the middle of the old airbase, thus making getting to the track a snap from either Hwy 34 or I-80.
