this is kinda going off of the other post but mine are rusted also not to the point that they are breaking but they are not just surface rust either I was wondering if it would be at all possible to just take them off "shave" them if you will...anyone done this??

I have not, but was seriously considering it for my resto/custom. My thought was to use an abrasive cutoff wheel to get the bulk of the gutter off, then grind small patches (4-6 inches at a time) down to be just "even" with the roof contour. Either weld in a small piece of patch metal, or just weld the seam if it turns out to be tight. This way, the whole seam will not be gaping all at once and there won't be any risk of warping it with weld heat either.
Once all the welds are made, go back and give it a final smoothing to blend the contour. Seems simple, but maybe there is a catch?!?

there are people on here that say that you can just take some screws out and then pry them off then there should only be the few holes from the screws that are remaining that would need to be welded. I really do not know I have seen my chevelle twice since I have owned it because I am national guard activated working in D.C. But I have seen first gen camaro's with this done and it gives it a real clean look.
