Im gettin ready to paint the underbody in black(frame is out). I need opinions on firewall and fender color (front clip is off but might as well ask now) The car wont be a show car but wont see rain or snow. just a weekend cruiser.

Im thinking firewall light blue metallic(body color) and the inner fenders underhood black.

do most people paint the firewall black???

I know there is no right or wrong answers cause it wont be original show material. but I value y'alls pinion. Pics would be nice.

Thanks Chris

I like the black thing, not flat, not shinny, but a semi-gloss. Looks more like a "car" and not a model http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

But the body paint on the inner fenders is an idea, easy to keep clean, could look cool.

Body color on the underside of the hood is something I really like, you could stripe it and it would look just handsome when showing off in that downtown gas station.

The firewall I believe should be black, it goes up over to the wipers and that is all black. And it goes all the way down under the car, which you want black.

Lots of possibilities http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

Chris-

Here's what I did. Color of car is Mulsanne Blue, firewall & inner fenders are a satin black:

There's always trunk splatter paint http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif(like my car:eek http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Actually, it doesn't look all that bad(IMO, at least):

I like the look of everything being the body color. It makes the car look more "finished". IMO

Just don't do it to a white car like I did. Talk about maintenance!

body color is for the body...hence the term... Do it semi glass black like it was originally... easy to keep clean, and looks right.

Looking right depends on who's looking at it.
It's your ride so you decide.

I got into cars through my dad who builds street rods which generally have body color everywhere.
I didn't fall far from the tree as far as the car thing goes, but my tastes go for the street machines. Just about anything GM from the 60's is pretty to me.

However, personally I do find the engine compartments painted the body color to be more appealing to me. But I build cars that I like to drive and look at, not for a trailer and definitely not for a judge to pick at because it ain't original. Just my $.02
