Installing my new Alumitech Radiator in my 66 396 Chevelle. Would like to install an aftermarket Coolant Overflow Recovery Tank so the fluid doesn't spurt out everyday. Can you recommend one? Napa has universal plastic ones in a Large or Small size...Does it matter...? Also-Can I use my existing radiator cap which is 14lbs....?? Thanks in advance....!! I appreciate all the advice since I'm new to Chevelles...!!

use the large in your car, a BBC holds a lot of water. the small one is better for v-6 and 4 cyls. you need a coolant recovery cap with similar pressure setting. the recovery cap has an extra seal that seals against the top of the radiator neck. after the install, make sure the level in the bottle is changing between cold and hot states.

Im sure the manufacturer of your radiator would give you the best recomendations with regards to which cap to use, and recomendations on recovery tank size etc. Call them for the best answer.

I used the windshield washer tank in my 67SS after I installed my alumitech radiator. It works fine. I installed another washer tank for my windshield washers. I now have two, one for the radiator, one for the WS washers.

The slickest set-up I have seen is on a 1970 Chevelle the guy hid the recovery tank in the right front fender(next to the battery). Unless you knew it was there or followed the lines, it was totally out of sight, but yet had the function there when he needed it. That's my plans for my car!

Troy, I did the exact same thing on my 66. I used the original WW bottle location for the overflow and mounted another WW bottle on the left fender for the WW fluid. I think I have a pic of it on my web page.

I also used the W/W tank and it works like a champ. If you need a picture let me know.

I have used the WW reservoir since I bought '66 in 1978. It's in the perfect location.

I too have an Alumitech radiator and have been seriously considering an aftermarket, however, not one of those trailer trash POS they sell at the cloned corner parts stores. Rather the Speed Shop aluminum cylinder type of catch can. It seems like it would look cool mounted vertically on either side of the rad. Filler cap location and overflow tube would favor a drivers side mount, but my preference would probably be between the rad and battery.

I run a 7 lb radiator cap (NAPA-BK 703-2444) and coolant reservoir (NAPA-BK 730-4514) on my 67 BB. I made an aluminum mounting bracket for the reservoir. Not fancy but it works.
