I am wondering if anyone has tried putting a protective oil film on the frame and underside of their car. I'm not talking about undercoating but about a product like Lloyd's Fluid Film. The manufacturer claims this stuff helps protect metal from rust in marine and very salty environments. Even though I'm not driving the car in the winter, it has some surface rust starting underneath. It likely won't see a body off frame restoration for a number of years, and I am afraid the rust might become worse by then.
A gallon or two of this stuff (at about $75.00 per gallon) sprayed into all the nooks and crannies might help preserve the car until it comes apart some day.
I also have wondered if the oil might prevent paint from sticking in the future, or would sandblasting clean the metal adequately?
Any experience with this or opinions?
Thanks,
David
