I had to send the wife to the paint store after epoxey primer. She came back with some stuff named cheMfil DX520 metal conditioner. What is it and what do I do with it? Not worth the trip to return it.

Looks like they gave you some metal cleaner/conditioner. You use it to prep the bare metal befor applying the epoxy primesuch as PPG's DP series. You mix it 3:1 with water and apply it with a scotch brite pad and then rinse with clean water untill it sheets off of the metal. I know, why put water on bare metal? The conditioner leaves a phosphate coating on the metal which is brown in color and isn't rust, so don't panic. Just wipe the bare metal with laquer thinner and apply the DP and your panels are ready for body work or primer surfacer.

Sounds like you live a long ways from the store! If you want to mail order some supplies for 1/2 price, call PIVCO @ 812-479-1117. Ask for the gallon "kit" for Urethane primer in a buff color. It comes with a gallon of high quality urethane primer/surfacer, reducer and hardener for about $69.95. It's sand easy and is a high build primer. Good stuff! In a supply store it would cost you almost double.

Thanks guys, sounds like good stuff. I will try it on a panel or two and see what happens. And yes, I live in the middle of the desert.
