There are two trouble spots of rust on my car that I don't know how to tackle. The other rust areas I can manage.

The first is the strip that is right above the trunk and right below the rear window. The photos show the rust, not sure how to go about fixing that.

The other spot is right behind the rear bumper. When I took it off, I had a nice surprise as most of that metal strip is all rotted out. See photos.

Any help how to fix all that would be greatly appreciated.

The first is the rear deck panel, replacement panels are sold at most aftermarket sources. Your panel is cut out and replaced with a new panel. The area next to the bumper is probably also available. I would give Ground Up,OPG or Year One a call.

Thanks! - That red 65 in your signature. Is that yours? Very nice... what size wheels are those? Also, who makes that hood?

The wheels were 15x7 Boyds and are now gone. My son's 65 now has 15x3.5 front and 15x8 Rear Centerlines.

I also own a 65 Chevelle 300. I paid more for mine, and got more rust. I had no auto bodywork experience but worked with metal and welding. I have replaced the trunk floor, patched the rear inner wheel wells, lifted the body and am going to replace the floor supports and floor pans. My rear tail light panel looks alot like yours (but worse). I planned to just cut out what was rusted and patch metal in, but I found that they make rear replacement panels and it would be wiser and look better to go that route. Don't cut any metal until you recieve the new panels. Search through the past postings on this site and you'll find a lot of good advice.

As Rick said.. the rear deck panel is availble aftermarket.. not a BIG job but you have to remove you back window.. and WILL most likly find BAD Rust in that window chanel ALSO.

Just remember to draw your self a little map of the window trim clip placement B-4 you remove it. as for the rear tail pan.. Your on your own for that... It's a simple roll your own and weld.
There three layers along the edge,, Trunk floor, tail pan and rear trunk cross brace. mqke up the tail seam..
