Did the 66 SS ever come with small indicator/turn signal lights on top of the fenders? I have what appears to be an original passenger side front fender with one on it, hole and wiring are definitely original and not home-made. Could it be a different fender? Car is an uncut #'s matching SS, everything else checks out right. The wiring is not spliced, looks like the original harness to the light.

Brian,
This was avaliable--but not until the 1967 model year. It was known as the Vigi-lite lamp monitoring system There were chrome wedges on the tops of the fenders and little colored dots that illuminated with the corresponding turnsignals and headlights. FIBER OPTICS were used to carry the light, not wires and bulbs! The optics were stuck into the rear of the bulb sockets and carried the light to the indicator bezels.
Pretty cool huh? And quite rare to find factory cars equipped with them. 1970 was the last model year available with them.

Brian,
You may have some Mopar turn signal indicators as I've seen some people use these on GM vehicles. They were quiet common on pentastar products and easy to wire up.

Hey, the 67 I'm buying has these. How rare are they? I didn't know what they even were at first, I don't really like the look of them, they kind of stick out. I don't think the ones on mine are from a Chrysler either, the car is way original and was taken off the road in '76. I'l have to take a close look when I bring the car home.

Rob,
Don't even think of throwing them away! Only a few hundred vehicles each year were ordered with them, read that RARE
If you hate the look, I'd carefully remove them, tuck the fiber optics back into the fender and carefully box up the "external" parts for safe keeping. The chrome bezels are available thru the aftermarket, but not the inside illuminated dots I believe. Also the original fiber optics and related hardware are also not available.
Like I said before, it was only available from '67 thru '70 on Chevelles.

Don't worry, I wouldn't throw them out, I just think they kind of stand out. Do you know where I can see some pictures of other cars with this option, or some information on it? I don't know for sure what I'l do until I pick up the car after christmas, hmmm I'm pretty broke, I wonder how they'd do on ebay?(I'd probably regret it years later though http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif )
