My door won't lock. Each time I lock my 66 it unlocks when the door closes. Even when I try to lock it with a with the door closed.

So do I adjust the striker or what? I'm need some directions here.

Thanks.

When it unlocks itself, does the door stay closed tightly or is the latch popping loose too?

It seems to be latched well.

How does it unlock when the door is already closed? Push it down, and it pops right back up?

I have to hold the button down on my 66 when I lock the doors.

It either pops up when the door is being pushed closed as it hits the striker or? Or when I try to close it and use the key to lock it from the outside.

I remember a Camaro doing that to me a number of years ago. It was a broken spring IN the latch.

By the way, forget about the striker. All you have to do is click the latch shut with your thumb while the door is open and you will see that the problem is within the latch.

LOL. now THAT is funny! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif Yep, every manufacture does things different! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif Heck at work I have every kind of car imaginable in my stall from time to time. It seems like I just can't remember how EVERY cars doors lock. So every time I am working on the handles I have to "learn" how that particular car locks. We pull handles off almost every car because on almost every job the doors are at the very least a "blend panel." You cannot believe how easy some cars are to remove those handles. Mercedes and VW for instance come off without removing any door trim or anything. While others like a late model Chevy pickup are a %&@*!

My car is like that...to lock from the outside when closing the door, the button needs to be pressed.

I had thought this was a feature that Chevy only used for a few years, starting in 1970, though? Along with remote entry, it sure is a great way to keep from locking your keys in your car! I never have to push the door handle button when locking because I use the remote to lock it, and to do that I must have my keys.

leadsled, they used this feature from as far back as the early fifties and I believe still do.

It doesn't always work like that Led, I have looked down more than once to see my keys laying on the front seat as I hold the button down and hear the latch click http://www.chevelles.com/forum/redface.gif .

Nah, it doesn't if you manually lock the doors...but I'm saying that I never do it that way. I always use my remote to lock my doors now that I've installed remote entry. If my keys are in the car, I can't accidentally lock it cuz I don't have the remote and it unlocks itself when I close the door, keeping me from accidentally manually locking it.
