Hi, im just wondering what i can expect to pay for my engine to be complety repainted. Just the block and heads. The block isnt down to metal so it would also need to be cleaned up.

You can do it yourself cheap. Degrease it and get a couple of spray cans of Chevy orange hi-temp engine paint from the local parts store.

Most people do this yourself. If you do outsource this step, let a bodyshop do it, not a machine shop. An engine builder will tell you, rattle cans are good! It will look awesome! Dah! Yeah! For a few weeks maybe, just as long as THEY will see it.

A paint shop would probably charge about $100-150 for a good urethane paint job. That's why most folks do it themselves.

Rattle cans are a cheap way to cover bare metal. It will look good for a few months and steadily decline in gloss and adhesion from there. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
If you're selling your car like a used car salesman, rattle can your engine to death. If you want a long lasting professional job, preperation is key to good long lasting engine paint.

Even if you choose the Pro, know these steps to convey to the shop of your expectations as anyone can spray some paint on a motor.

I always: Degrease with a toothbrush and a can of starter fluid. Don't breathe heavy during this step.
Then brush and wipe thoroughly with a pre-paint prep over a fully assembled engine, minus aluminum heads/intake if applicable.

Spray 2-3 coats of epoxy primer. Let dry and scuff with 400. Smooth it as much as you want. I've seen some really slick smooth engines that are a breeze to keep clean for years. The epoxy over sealed gaskets offers a long term leak-free added sealant.......

Paint with an automotve BC/CC or single stage 2 part urethane paint.

The POR paint is good, but meant to be applied ONCE over bare metal. The automotive paint can be worked and smoothed if desired.
