Trying to find out if the axle tubes on the 12 bolt chevelle in 1967 were same diameter right out to the flange. Cannot mount aftermarket caliper bracket because the rear in the car steps up about an inch before the flange making it impossible to bolt the bracket to it.

Abspower brakes say that the tubes should be one diameter right to the flange. Wondering if I have the correct rear in the car.

Would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks, John

You probably have the "O" (Oldsmobile) axle, which also has 12 bolts in the cover. The Chevy 12 bolt has a very slight step down right at the brake flange. The "O" axle has a step up because it uses a larger axle bearing. The axles are retained by the axle bearing and the 4 bolts that hold the brake backing plate and bearing retainer. Chevy axles are retained by c clips on the inner end of the axle.

To Byars Performance,

Thanks for the info on the 12 bolt axle tubes. I kind of figured that it wasn't the correct rear when I realized that the axles were not retained by c-clips.
