I recently acquired my 65 chevelle. The trunk pan was cut out of it already and when I removed the trunk door, I could see the frame was smashed on one piece. I have heard from 3 different people and they have said it is 3 different things. I figured I would go to the experts. This is behind the rear axel, under the trunk. If someone could tell me what is smashed, It looks like a retainer hole for something. I had one person tell me it was for the shocks, one told me it was for a support bar, and one told me it was where the body mounts to the frame. What is the best way to fix it. Thanks guys....

It is undoubtedly a body mount, find one off of a donor frame and weld it on or fab your own to match the other side. Easy repair.

Thank you. Glad that is an easy fix. I have someone coming over to fix it in the next week. I am going to get it sand blasted and then he will fix it. He doenst want me to get it powder coated becuase he is afriad it will crack while he is fixing this. Can I just get it sand blasted then after he is done, put a primer on it and not have is powder coated? This is my 1st car I am doing this to so I am not sure of the benifits of having it powder coated. If anyone can help I would appricate it. Thanks a million...

I've powdercoated the frame on my '71 Pro Touring Chevelle, but there weren't any repairs needed back on the "thin" frame section under the trunk. I would say that after a quality repair job on your frame that was done right, eliminating crack potential, get it powdercoated.
I can just hear the POR-15 vs. paint vs. powdercoating debate brewing already!
