Seems like when an animated picture is copied or saved, when opened again it's no longer animation?

What application are you opening them with?
Windows Picture and Fax Viewer has problems with some animated .gif files. Try IrfanView for a more reliable viewer.

Using Jasc Paint Shop Pro.

As an example, Nate posted a pictre:
http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142614&page=2
and it lost it's animation.

I tried saving that same animated picture and my only choice was to save it as a .bmp
I then opened it with Paint Shop Pro.
It was animated before I copied it.

I don't really know what file extension it originally had.
Are all animated pictures ".gif's" ?

The only animated files I've seen are .GIF files. I haven't had any problems with using Windows Picture and Fax Viewer (w/XP Pro) but then I don't open that many to say it never fails. Anytime you save a .GIF animated file with a .JPG or .BMP extension it changes the structure of the file and only grabs the current view.

As its been said You must save it as a GIF file. This is a test http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2097000-2097999/2097761_65_full.gif

Paint Shop Pro doesn't show an animated .gif as animated, even if the file is ok. I don't think many picture editors can do that. But if you have a newer version of PSP (I use PSP 7.0), you can open it in Animation Shop, where you also can modify them, create your own animations etc.

Try to open the .gif you saved in Internet Explorer. It should work, unless the file is corrupted or the file extension has been changed.

That and the solution has been posted here in this forum before, had something to do with temp files I think. Did you ever find something to open the .rm files? Real Player will open them.

Thanks
I had saved the file from email (outlook) and had no other choice but to save it as a .bmp
Now I can save .gif files again.

Yeah I found out but I removed Real Player because it was constantly wanting to take me to another site.

If you look at the properties it has been saved as a .gif

When you save you do a save as: then make sure file type is set to .gif and then save it.

Like everybody already said, the problem is most likely the software you are attempting to view it with. You can easily test that by saving the animated .gif to your hard drive, and then open it with your Browser. The browser can display it correctly, or you would not have seen it animated on the webpage. If it works viewing it with your browser, you can either just view it that way in the future, or get better software to view it.
There is an incredible piece of free software available that will do it. Gimp http://www.gimp.org/ . It has been available for Unix and Linux for years, and now is available for Windows and Mac. It should do just about any graphics work you could ever want or need.
