I'm planning on running an oil cooler so I can better manage my engine temperature. What I need to know is what kind of adapter I should use to get the oil to the cooler. I was planning on using this one out of a '77 Chevy pickup with a 454.

The adapter is upside down in the pic.

I just don't know if it'll work on my '66 396 because my my engine already has an adapter for a spin on type filter. Will I just be able to take out my filter adapter, put this one in, and run the cooler lines? I'm tired of the high temperatures at the track.

Thanks,
Richard

yes this will bolt on in place of the stock bypass .... it uses the same two tapped holes that hold on the stock bypass to the block ... only longer bolts for this one .... anytime you're running oil lines out to a cooler use extra care in routing & mounting them !! P.S. chevy sells the bolts & gaskets for this setup still :D ... before installing adapter check the bypass blow offs to make sure they still work & are not broken !!

Thanks!
I was actaully thinking about using the lines from GM. When I pulled this adapter I pulled the lines and the cooler. I decided not to use the lines and cooler because they looked like they were in bad shape. It's good to know that I can still use the adapter (with my new cooler).
