when drilling for spot welds, what size bit should i use?

I was just thinking about that very thing early this morning. I think I remember seeing 3/16 to 1/4 somewhere. Sound right? I've been practicing and my holes have been 5/16 but they seem kind of large and I've been having trouble filling them completely.

I usually go 1 or 2 under 1/4" - Just my preference.

naw I don't eat donuts. I have been known to guzzle some coffee though.

i have been drilling this weekend. the 3/16th is close but then you have a tiny bit still connected. went up to 1/4 it works better. good luck

5/16 hole is what should used for plug welds. Any smaller and you risk poor penetration. If your having trouble plug welding a 5/16 hole you need more practice.

When welding up a hole go from 10 to 2 oclock and fill in the center.


Wouldnt welding for four hours warp the panel.....???
